Description of the “Wachau Tour”
Your “Wachau round trip” starts in Dürnstein. The castle ruins 300 meters above the town are known as the dungeon of the English King Richard the Lionheart. But the town itself also offers a variety of sights.
After this stop, the tour continues to Weißenkirchen. One of the many picturesque places along the Danube.
After a short stop at the Gothic fortified church of St. Michael, past Spitz with its late Gothic church and the ruins of Aggstein Castle, we arrive in the picturesque village of Emmersdorf, where you can already enjoy a breathtaking view of the absolute highlight of every Wachau tour: Melk Abbey!
The Benedictine abbey is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered the largest monastery complex of the Austrian Baroque period. Melk Abbey is the undisputed landmark of the Wachau with its location on a hill visible from afar.
After this visit, the Wachau tour takes you through a memorable landscape along the Danube to Krems. The town’s old town is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Among the sights in Krems are the Steiner Tor, a former town gate, and the Caricature Museum.
