Description of the city tour “Jewish Vienna – half-day tour”
The first destination on your tour is the memorial against war and fascism on Albertinaplatz. This monument, which dominates the entire square, commemorates the countless victims of the Holocaust and is an important memorial.
A visit to the Jewish section of the Central Cemetery is the next stop.
In 2011, the European Maccabiad Games were held in Vienna on German-speaking soil for the first time since 1945. As part of your tour, you will visit the sports venues of these games.
The tour continues to the Volkertmarkt, which invites you to linger with its many kosher stalls.
The route of your tour then continues to the Jewish Museum. The rich Jewish history of the city of Vienna from the 17th century to the present day is presented here, as well as special exhibitions. It goes without saying that the horrific incision caused by the National Socialists and the Third Reich with the Shoah also plays an important role here.
Afterwards, you will visit the largest synagogue in the city of Vienna. A Jewish bookshop and the Simon Wiesenthal Center are located in the same building complex.
